Early Summer Gardens

Explore Local Botanical Beauty

Early summer is an ideal time to visit local gardens and parks to enjoy the rich variety of natural beauty on display. Whether you want to learn more about the plant species being cultivated or simply relax and enjoy the serenity of nature, the Reynoldsville area has the perfect spot for you.

Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

This 13-acre botanical garden is home to gorgeous gardens, horticulture and art exhibitions (including a display of glass artworks by Dale Chihuly), a children’s garden, and more. Spend some time with the more than 400 species of plants featured in the conservatory, or explore the themed gardens throughout the grounds. Grab a bite at the Garden Café, featuring ingredients grown at the Conservatory, and bring a reminder of the beauty home with a stop at the Botanica Gift Shop and Greenhouse.

Columbus Park of Roses

The Columbus Park of Roses features more than 12,000 specimens of roses, including a stunningly designed Formal Rose Garden and a Heritage Rose Garden featuring varieties cultivated prior to 1867. Explore the grounds on a mile of paved pathways, rest on one of the benches to take in the surroundings, or explore the backyard garden, filled with low-maintenance ideas for visitors to put to use at home.

Topiary Garden Park

Take a rare opportunity to step into a world-famous painting at the Topiary Garden. This innovative garden, recreating Georges Seurat’s 1887 painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” is seven acres of meticulously shaped and placed topiaries. Be sure to view the garden from the bronze easel at the top of the hill; the view reflects what Seurat saw as he was painting.
