17 fun drinks you can make at home this summer

August is the perfect time to kick back and enjoy a fun summer drink. If you live at the Traditions at Slate Ridge Townhomes in Reynoldsburg, you have access to a sparkling pool in the summertime and a spacious kitchen that’s perfect for entertaining. When you need a refreshing summer drink to enjoy, we’ve got that covered too. Here are some of our favorite summertime drinks you can make at home. You can substitute seltzer, tonic, or club soda in most drinks to make them non-alcoholic. Additionally, you can add natural flavors to your summer drinks by growing potted herbs and spices in a sunny window or even your own fenced-in backyard (in select units– ask about availability!)

Mint

A classic summertime drink, the mint Mojito has mint, lime juice, white rum, and muddled sugar or simple syrup. Need it in the form of a breakfast drink? Try this mint mojito iced coffee with mint, strong brewed coffee, coconut milk, cream, and turbinado sugar.

For another non-alcoholic option, try this mojito twist with raspberries and blueberries.

Rosemary

This rosemary and peach wine spritzer just screams summertime and all you need to do is prepare a simple syrup with peaches, sugar, water, and rosemary, and then mix it with your favorite white wine or rosé.

You might also love a honey, rosemary, and grapefruit soda. You can make a grapefruit simple syrup from scratch, or for a less labor-intensive option, start with a store-bought grapefruit soda.

Lavender

Lavender lemon drop…the name just sounds delightful, doesn’t it? This is a three-ingredient drink that can be made with or without alcohol, by using culinary lavender buds to make a lavender simple syrup. (You can also just buy the lavender lemon syrup!)

For a non-alcoholic fizzy drink, just combine sparkling mineral water, lavender simple syrup and lemon juice to make a homemade lavender soda

Basil

Basil gin smash! This is an easy four-ingredient cocktail with gin, basil, lemon juice, and simple syrup and it smells divine. If you’d prefer a non-alcoholic version, try this strawberry basil lemonade, or blackberry basil lemonade.

Jalapeño

Jalapeños have a roasty, smoky flavor, which is why they’re often combined with sweeter ingredients like strawberry and pineapple. If you like your summer beverages with a kick, try this strawberry jalapeño margarita or pineapple jalapeño smash.

Dill

You might not think about adding dill to a drink, but there are many ways to do it– and unsurprisingly, most of them also include cucumber. Here’s a very pretty, very green cucumber dill martini. For an unleaded version, try a cucumber lemonade with a sprig of dill or cucumber dill mocktail with soda water and lime.

Lemongrass

Another unique flavor to add to your drinks is lemongrass, and it’s in season all summer long.  Here’s a refreshing and non-alcoholic ginger lemongrass coconut mocktail, or you can kick it up a notch with a lemongrass gin and tonic.
